The Weakness of Other Gods

[11:16]  ¹ tn Heb “Watch yourselves lest your heart turns and you turn aside and serve other gods and bow down to them.”

[15:8]  ² tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute before both verbs. The translation indicates the emphasis with the words “be sure to” and “generously,” respectively.

[15:8]  ³ tn Heb “whatever his need that he needs for himself.” This redundant expression has been simplified in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[23:12]  ⁴ tn Heb “so that one may go outside there.” This expression is euphemistic.

[25:13]  ⁵ tn Heb “a stone and a stone.” The repetition of the singular noun here expresses diversity, as the following phrase indicates. See IBHS 116 §7.2.3c.

[25:13]  ⁶ tn Heb “a large and a small,” but since the issue is the weight, “a heavy and a light one” conveys the idea better in English.

[32:26]  ⁷ tc The LXX reads “I said I would scatter them.” This reading is followed by a number of English versions (e.g., KJV, ASV, NIV, NCV, NRSV, NLT, CEV).
